4 smaller cases were used in this situation to allow
for a more subtle change in appearance. An initial
case of 400 grafts were used to fill in behind the
"widow's peak", the small tuft of hair that
you see up front. A second session of 400 grafts five
months later moved the scalpline laterally and forward
to the position that you see in the "after"
view. Two additional sessions followed to add additional
density throughout and additional feathering to the
scalpline. The total number of grafts over the four
sessions totalled approximately 2600. These grafts
were composed of one hair grafts to the front scalpline
zone, 3 and 4 hair mini-grafts to a zone behind the
single hair grafts and 4 to 6 hair grafts were decided
upon to fill in the middle zone. See "FAQs"
for a discussion of the pros and cons of using larger
grafts than the normally occurring clusters of the
"follicular graft" that averages 2.3 hairs.
A disadvantage of moving the scalpline forward in
subsequent sessions is that you often have to do one
session more than if you define the scalpline with
the first session. This is due to the fact that if
you define the final scalpline with the first session,
you are able to thicken and add subtlety to the feathering
with each subsequent session. Usually two sessions
should be thought necessary to get adequate density
of the scalpline if the scalpline is in a previously
bald (vs thinned) area.
