Are you Shopping for Quality?

To assess quality, imagine yourself in the shoes of your providers at your chosen transplant practice. Are the technicians or the doctor(s) being pulled in several directions at the same time? Are they overworked and/or underpaid? Do they have to hurry up to finish your case to get ready for another? Is there more than one case going on simultaneously? Does the doctor make the recipient sites? No doubt a technician could, given enough experience but…. Does the doctor participate in placing the grafts and check for consistent quality in grafts produced from all of the participating technicians? Before the procedure began, did the doctor and you take the time to assure your expectations are in order regarding your restoration process? Did this discussion look thirty years as well as a few years ahead? Was the scalpline meticulously designed, perhaps taking over an hour of fine tuning the shape of the scalpline to the shape of your face and to your own wishes?

These are valid questions in the Real World. The bottom line regarding your hair transplantation is the quality of the attention, backed by experience, that is focused upon you and your individual circumstances.

Dr. Reed and his experienced staff at La Jolla Hair Restoration take pride in the quality of their work. Dr. Reed has had a hair transplant and knows that you will be looking into the mirror everyday for the rest of your life and feeling either reaffirmed or not that your hair transplantation was one of the more satisfying decisions that you have made for yourself. With the surgeon and his staff maintaining the right focus of attention to apply the knowledge gained only by experience, the techniques of modern hair transplantation can offer over 85% of men a significant solution for their hair loss. Dr. Reed is keenly aware of the importance of focus of execution from studying martial arts for 18 years and from honing that skill during 20 years of emergency medicine. Combined with studying the aesthetics unique to hair restoration for six years, Dr. Reed feels confident that he and his experienced staff deliver consistently high quality.

To help insure this, there is only one doctor at La Jolla Hair Restoration, Dr. Reed, and there is only one case performed a day. "Having all day to do what needs to be done is not a luxury but, rather, is essential for consistently providing the highest quality. It is that high standard that I would want for myself and I feel that it is a critical element in deciding which transplant practice really stands for quality," reflects Dr. Reed.

Dr. Reed has been active in researching leading edge technologies in hair transplantation. He has designed studies funded by the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery (ISHRS) to evaluate combined follicular unit grafting survival. He has made presentations on this subject at the International Society’s annual meeting in 1998 in Washington, DC and at the American Society of Dermatologic Surgery in Miami in 1999. He was representative for the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery at the 2nd Hair Research Society Meeting in Washington, DC in the fall of 1998. He has written articles published in Hair Transplant Forum International including an editorial to be published this fall relating follicular unit grafts and combined follicular unit grafting. He will make two presentations at the annual ISHRS meeting in San Francisco on the same subject as well as on the current state of growing the hair follicle in cell culture. He sits on the ISHRS’s Scientific and Education Committee.

To try to critically assess quality, every effort is made to stay in touch with patients after the procedure. Sound satisfaction is consistently achieved.
